Our Pediatric Liver Program offers sophisticated, multidisciplinary treatment for the full spectrum of liver and bile duct disorders in children.  

We offer same-day and next-day appointments for children who need urgent evaluations for serious liver and/or bile duct conditions. Our physicians will analyze their symptoms, conduct a thorough physical examination and, as necessary, use a variety of state-of-the-art blood tests and radiographic and endoscopic procedures for diagnosis. We use the least invasive approaches possible and provide: 

  • Treatment for the following conditions: 
    • Acute liver failure 
    • Autoimmune hepatitis, sclerosing cholangitis and other immune-mediated disorders 
    • Biliary atresia and other inherited hepatobiliary malformations  
    • Liver Transplantation  
    • Chronic liver disease, cirrhosis  
    • Drug induced liver disease  
    • Fatty liver disease (MASLD) and obesity 
    • Infections of the liver, viral hepatitis or other viruses   
    • Liver cancers such as hepatoblastoma and hepatocellular carcinoma 
    • Liver complications from other chronic conditions  
    • Metabolic and genetic liver diseases  
    • Neonatal cholestasis  
    • Portal Hypertension 
  • Inpatient and outpatient consultations 
  • A multifaceted, novel therapeutic approach 
  • Our multidisciplinary team includes hepatologists, gastroenterologists, hepatobiliary surgeons, transplant surgeons, liver-specialized pediatric intensive care physicians, pediatric anesthesiologists, infectious disease specialists, radiologists, pathologists, transplant immunologists, nurse practitioners, transplant coordinators, nurses, nutritionists, pharmacists, social workers, child life specialists, psychologists and financial counselors, among all other subspecialties and supportive staff 
  • Collaborative care with CHAM’s Division of Pediatric Surgery and the Montefiore Einstein Center For Transplantation for liver transplant, hepatobiliary surgery (for such conditions as biliary atresia, biliary cysts and tumors) and other advanced surgical solutions 
  • Pediatric metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) Clinic. This weekly clinic is devoted exclusively to treating patients with MASLD, previously referred to as nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. 
  • Coordinated long-term care plans and follow-up 
  • Extracorporeal liver support: we are one of the few centers in the US that offers such as molecular adsorbent recirculating system (MARS).
  • Ongoing clinical research
