Pediatric Residency Program

Global Health Pathway

In collaboration with Internal Medicine and Family Medicine, the Global Health Pathway includes a 4-week cornerstone elective at the end of PGY-2 year. This dedicated elective, along with longitudinal sessions held through the year, combines clinical medicine, public health, epidemiology, health systems, and an exploration of the cultural, social, and political determinants of health. The pathway prepares residents to approach clinical care and public health challenges across diverse resource settings while critically examining issues of health equity, global disease burden, and sustainable health interventions. Through interactive didactics, case-based learning, and applied experiences, residents develop practical skills in clinical decision-making, population health, infectious and noncommunicable diseases, maternal and child health, and culturally responsive care.

The curriculum as a while emphasizes adaptability, resource-conscious clinical reasoning, ethical engagement, and partnership with local health systems. The cornerstone global health elective fulfills 4 weeks of individualized curriculum requirements and is a prerequisite for any subsequent four-week global health experience which would occur during Free Elective PGY-3 year. Approval of external global health experiences and participating locations and sites, is determined on a case-by-case basis.
