Our Expertise
The Clinical Neuroscience Center at CHAM puts the latest research findings of Albert Einstein College of Medicine to work for our neurology and neurosurgery patients on a day-to-day basis. CHAM has been consistently ranked as a top children's hospital for these services by US News and World Report for years running. Going further, we continue to build on our leading reputation for advanced technology, superior clinical excellence, exceptional research, and outstanding medical education.
Children referred to the center for diagnosis and treatment benefit from the expertise of a team that includes world-renowned experts in their fields:
- Pediatric and adult epileptologists
- Neuropsychologists
- Neuropsychiatrists
- Neurosurgeons
- Social workers
- Case managers
- Clinical nurse specialists
- Exemplary nurses and EEG technologists
Our expert pediatricians and staff members use state-of-the-art equipment to provide cutting-edge, but family-centered, care. Our ability to make nuanced diagnoses of neurological disorders offers a massive contribution to the treatment of many chronic conditions, from epilepsy to autism and rarer disorders. Our monitoring capabilities, as children undergo treatment, have helped us to establish an international reputation for outstanding achievement. For example, we have made major breakthroughs in the prognosis and treatment of childhood seizure disorders, and also in the relationship between epilepsy, autism, and language disorders.
We also collaborate with CHAM's Sleep Disorders Center, the only full-service sleep laboratory and evaluation center dedicated exclusively to children in the New York metropolitan area. It allows us to deliver highly specialized diagnoses and treatments for children with neurological disorders such as narcolepsy, as well as respiratory sleep disorders in children.
Compassionate, family-centered care
Parents and other adult caregivers play an important role during the diagnosis and treatment of children with neurological disorders, and we encourage them to take an active role throughout their child's treatment. The presence of caregivers not only comforts children during diagnostic tests, but also helps doctors to make the most accurate diagnosis possible and better evaluate the success of ongoing treatment. Our doctors and support staff, including nurses and psychologists, are committed to educating parents throughout the process: about factors that contribute to neurological disorders, how these conditions will impact their child throughout development, and how and why we may adjust our approach to treatment as the child grows.
