L.E.A.D. Program

Advancing New Talent

L.E.A.D. has partnered with other initiatives throughout Montefiore and Albert Einstein College of Medicine to ensure that we cultivate a deep and diverse bench of talent that will help drive patient care and research to new and groundbreaking frontiers.

In collaboration with our Pediatric Residency Program, we have created L.E.A.D.E.R. ((Leadership, Engagement and Diversity in Education through Residency), an effort to both promote the active recruitment of currently underrepresented trainees and support the progress and well-being of our current residents.

Ongoing, open dialogue, communication and sensitivity will be vital to our progress. The L.E.A.D. team has convened a new committee comprised of senior CHAM faculty members, in addition to administrators and residents, to ensure that the concerns of underrepresented groups in the House Staff are addressed.

For example, we are currently planning Safe Zone training sessions designed to help our staff provide the most welcoming and positive environment for our LGBTQ community as possible.

In addition, we have partnered with the Office of Diversity Enhancement at Albert Einstein College of Medicine to establish L.E.A.D.E.R.S., which stands for Leadership, Engagement and Diversity in Education for under-represented Students. This in initiative supports medical students of color at Einstein who would like to specialize in pediatrics.

We are currently connecting these up-and-coming physicians with CHAM House Staff and faculty mentors, who can help them prepare for the residency application and interview process and assist them in other ways.
