Kevin Fiori, MD, MPH, MSc, FAAP will serve as the Vice Chair for Community Health & Engagement and inaugural Division Chief for the Division of Community and Population Health within the Department of Pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM). As Vice Chair, Dr. Fiori will lead our department’s efforts in improving the health of our patients and community through public engagement.
Dr. Fiori is a general pediatrician and an Associate Professor in both the Division of Academic General Pediatrics and Department of Family and Social Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He is the Executive Director, Community Health Worker Institute at Montefiore and the Director of Social Determinants of Health at the Office of Community & Population Health, Montefiore Health System.
Dr. Fiori completed his MD at the University of Washington, MPH at Boston University School of Public Health, and MSc in Clinical Research Methods at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. In 2002, he participated in the Master’s International Program combining graduate work at Boston University School of Public Health and Peace Corps service. He is the primary investigator on multiple implementation research studies focused on improving health service delivery, especially integration of community health workers.
In 2016, Dr. Fiori joined the faculty in both the Departments of Pediatrics and Family and Social Medicine after completing residency training in Social Pediatrics and serving as Chief Resident at CHAM. He was a Fellow in New York State’s Empire Clinical Research Investigator Program. Dr. Fiori co-directs the Global Health Elective course for the Department of Pediatrics. He is an advisory board member for the Global Health Center at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
In 2021, Dr. Fiori established the Community Health Worker Institute (CHWI) to improve health equity by optimizing community health worker integration within clinical care teams. Community health workers are a bridge between social and clinical care and serve as an invaluable workforce for health systems to address adverse social determinants of health, improve access to healthcare for disadvantaged populations, and serve as an entry point to sustainable healthcare careers for local community experts. This program has received over $7.2 million in extramural funding and continues to add to our knowledge about integrating community health workers and social determinants screening into clinical care.
Dr. Fiori’s clinical activities are based in the South Bronx. He is an attending physician at the Montefiore Medical Group Comprehensive Health Care Center (CHCC). He supervises and provides mentorship to residents in the Social Pediatrics Residency Program. Please join me in congratulating and welcoming Dr. Fiori to his new role.
