Hypertension and Kidney Failure
Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is the second-leading cause of kidney failure in the U.S., after diabetes. High blood pressure causes blood vessels throughout the body to stretch and weaken. When blood vessels in the kidneys are damaged, the kidneys can't do their job of removing waste and fluid from our bodies. This can raise blood pressure even further, perpetuating the cycle of damage.
At CHAM, we put extensive resources behind researching, diagnosing, treating, and managing hypertension. For example, we are the only facility in the region offering walk-in blood pressure monitoring for children. Our services include:
High blood pressure and cardiovascular risk evaluation Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring for children A center for the study of hypertension in children
