Continuing Quality and Performance Improvement
The Division of Neonatology has been at the forefront of continuing quality improvement (CQI) and performance improvement (PI) initiatives through provision of high-quality neonatal care with an emphasis on all domains of hospital acquired conditions (HAC’s) of patient safety. The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore, including the neonatal services, are involved in multiple collaborative performance improvement initiatives through the Children’s Hospital Association Collaborative, the Greater New York Hospital Association-United Hospital Fund Perinatal Safety Collaborative, New York State Department of Health Perinatal Quality Collaborative (Obstetric and Neonatal Improvement Programs), the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Breastfeeding Hospital Learning Collaborative and TeamSTEPPS (Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety) strategies as a means to promoting systems integration, communication and standardization within and across health systems. We also participate in two national benchmarking organizations, the National Perinatal Information Center and the Vermont Oxford Neonatal Network. Multiple quality and performance improvement projects are in process with a variety of metrics and outcomes measures to guide perinatal care practices and enhance outcomes.
