Therapeutic Electrical Stimulation

Therapeutic electrical stimulation (TES) is a type of electrical stimulation used at night while the individual is sleeping. The goal of TES is to increase blood flow to muscles in which fibers are atrophied (very withered and weak). TES, developed by Karen Pape, MD, at the Magee Clinic in Toronto, is used in conjunction with physical and occupational therapies to strengthen the muscle and improve the individual's functional abilities.
