Conclusions

The increasing utilization of MRI for screening children and adults with minimal neurological disease has resulted in an increased appreciation of the true incidence of Chiari malformation. It has also allowed for the opportunity to intervene at a much earlier stage in the condition's evolution. This certainly lessens the risks associated with any surgery and will result in less long-term morbidity for those with this condition.
