Personal Biography
Maryanne R. Chrisant, MD, is Director, Heart Transplant and Advanced Cardiac Therapies at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore Einstein and Associate Professor, Cardiology at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Chrisant’s clinical focus centers on heart transplantation in infants, children and young adults with adult congenital heart disease (ACHD) cardiomyopathies, heart failure, mechanical circulatory support and Fontan failure.
After obtaining her Bachelor of Science in biology from Tufts University in 1981, Dr. Chrisant earned her Doctor of Medicine at New York Medical College in 1986. She then attended Babies Hospital, College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University, completing a pediatrics internship in 1987, her pediatrics residency in 1989, a pediatric cardiology fellowship in 1991 and a pediatric cardiac transplant, heart failure, cardiomyopathy and ventricular assist device (VAD) support fellowship in 1993.
Dr. Chrisant’s research focuses on transplant, transplant immunology and heart failure. She also studies and practices Narrative Medicine and has been facilitating sessions for the pediatric cardiology fellows. Dr. Chrisant has been principal investigator and co-principal investigator on a number of funded research projects. Her work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed research publications, abstracts, editorials, reviews, consensus documents and book chapters, and she has given many national invited lectures and grand rounds presentations. She is a reviewer for several scientific journals, including the American Journal of Cardiology, Circulation and the Journal of the American Heart Association, among others.
Dr. Chrisant is board certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Pediatrics in Pediatric Cardiology. She is a member of several professional organizations, including the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation, the American Heart Association and the Pediatric Heart Transplant Society. She has been named a Top Doctor in Gold Coast Magazine and Boca Life Magazine on multiple occasions. Dr. Chrisant was also named in America’s Most Honored Doctors numerous times.
