Personal Biography
M. Susan LaTuga, MD, MSPH, is Director, Neonatal Education and Associate Professor, Pediatrics at Montefiore Einstein. Her clinical focus is on the management of high-risk infants, including extremely low birth weight and premature infants and infants with complex medical and surgical conditions.
After obtaining her Bachelor of Science from Duke University in 1996, Dr. LaTuga earned her Doctor of Medicine at the University of North Carolina in 2001 and a Master of Science in public health in 2000. Following this, Dr. LaTuga completed a pediatrics internship and residency at Einstein in 2004 before completing a fellowship in neonatal-perinatal medicine at Duke University Medical Center in 2011.
Dr. LaTuga’s research focuses on breastfeeding, medical education, relationships with advanced practice providers and the neonatal microbiome. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals, book chapters and review articles and she has given national presentations. She is actively involved in improving perinatal outcomes through work with community organizations such as Bronx Healthy Start. Dr. LaTuga is a reviewer for scientific journals and books such as Pediatric Research, Pediatrics, and Fetal and Neonatal Brain Injury.
Dr. LaTuga is board certified in General Pediatrics and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and an elected member of the Society for Pediatric Research. She is also a member of the AAP Section on Perinatal Pediatrics and the AAP Section on Breastfeeding. In 2000, Dr. LaTuga won the Secretary’s Award for Innovations in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. She has been recognized as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor since 2022.
