Personal Biography
Maria D. Valicenti-McDermott, MD, is a physician at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore Einstein, Child and Adolescent Unit Co-Director at the Children's Evaluation & Rehabilitation Center (CERC) at Montefiore Einstein and Associate Professor, Pediatrics at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Valicenti-McDermott’s clinical focus is in diagnosing and managing developmental and learning issues in school age children and adolescents.
In 1992, Dr. Valicenti-McDermott earned her Doctor of Medicine from Universidad de Buenos Aires, Facultad de Medicina in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She began her postgraduate training at Hospital de Niños de Buenos Aires “Ricardo Gutierrez”, Universidad de Buenos Aires in Buenos Aires, Argentina, completing her pediatric internship and residency in 1998, taking the role of Chief of Residents in her final year. She continued her postgraduate training in the United States, completing a pediatric residency at Jacobi Medical Center in 2002 followed by a fellowship in developmental and behavior pediatrics at CERC and the Clinical Research Training Program at Einstein in 2005.
Dr. Valicenti-McDermott’s research focuses on conditions such as learning disabilities, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism, as well as exploring effective intervention strategies, assessment tools and the impact of environmental and socio-demographic factors on child development. She has shared her work through peer-reviewed journals, abstracts and poster presentations.
Dr. Valicenti-McDermott is board certified in General Pediatrics and Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics.
