Personal Biography
Katarzyna Bigaj, MD, is an attending physician at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore Einstein and Assistant Professor at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Bigaj’s clinical focus centers on pre and post pediatric liver transplant care, pediatric hepatology and cholestatic liver disease. Her special interests include nutrition in liver disease and intestinal failure.
After obtaining her Bachelor of Science in psychology from the University of Illinois in 2006, Dr. Bigaj earned her Doctor of Medicine at Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland in 2010. She then completed her pediatric residency at the University of Miami in 2016 before completing a pediatric gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Texas in 2022. In 2023, Dr. Bigaj completed a pediatric transplant hepatology advanced fellowship at the University of Nebraska.
Dr. Bigaj’s research focuses on outcomes in liver transplant and nutrition in chronic liver disease. She has shared her work through numerous poster and oral presentations.
Dr. Bigaj is board certified in Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics. She is a member of the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition (NASPGHAN), the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) and the Society of Pediatric Liver Transplantation (SPLIT).
