Personal Biography
Dawn Wahezi, MD, MS, is Chief of the Division of Pediatric Rheumatology and Director of the Pediatric Rheumatology Fellowship Program at Children's Hospital at Montefiore. Dr. Wahezi is also an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
Upon graduating Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology from Loyola University Maryland, Dr. Wahezi earned her Doctor of Medicine at the State University of New York at Buffalo, School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. She obtained a Master of Science in Clinical Research at Albert Einstein College of Medicine as well as her residency and fellowship training at Children's Hospital at Montefiore. Dr. Wahezi is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA).
Dr. Wahezi has a particular research interest in juvenile dermatomyositis (JDM) and was awarded the Cure JM Foundation Early Investigator Award for her research in premature atherosclerosis. Dr. Wahezi has authored numerous publications and is currently engaged in several research projects within the domains of JDM and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). At Children's Hospital at Montefiore, Dr. Wahezi has established an interdisciplinary clinic and comprehensive patient registry for both children with JDM and SLE. Additional expertise includes the treatment of children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) and Dr. Wahezi is the site investigator for numerous clinical trials within this domain.
