Our team
The Hemostasis and Thrombosis Program at CHAM includes a multidisciplinary team of hematologists, nurse practitioners, social workers, physical therapists and child life specialists, as well as medical subspecialists with experience caring for patients with bleeding and clotting disorders. The team is led by Drs. William Mitchell and Jennifer Davila, pediatric hematologists whose main focus is to provide the highest quality acute and long-term care for children with disorders of hemostasis and thrombosis. Additional members of the team include pediatric hematologists Dr. Deepa Manwani and Dr. Kerry Morrone, nurse practitioners Ariel Levy and Preethi Fernandez, and social worker Bitalina Arroyo.
Hemophilia Treatment Center at Montefiore
Hemophilia is a complicated, chronic bleeding disorder. It is important to have a medical team with a vast amount of knowledge and expertise in hemophilia to help treat and prevent serious complications. By taking your child to a Hemophilia Treatment Center, your child will be receiving excellent medical care by providers who are experts in their field.
The Hemophilia Treatment Center (HTC) at Montefiore, is the first to be approved in the New England region for over forty years. Drs. Henny Billett and Jennifer Davila are the adult and pediatric co-directors of this program who serve patients with bleeding disorders in the Bronx, Westchester and Rockland counties. The Comprehensive nature of an HTC assures the diverse population of this region the social services, genetic counseling and support services that they require. The Montefiore Hemophilia Treatment Center creates a hemophilia medical home, so as our patient grows into adulthood we assist with a seamless transition in to the adult hemophilia program, led by Dr. Henny Billett. The HTC actively participates in Center for Disease Control (CDC) and Maternal Child Health Bureau (MCHB) studies, allowing our patients access to the national database and the most innovative in clinical care.
Platelet Disorders Program at Montefiore
Platelet are tiny cells in the blood that form blood clots. Platelet disorders can lead to excessive bleeding. The Platelet Disorders Program, led by Dr William Mitchell, is a comprehensive clinic devoted to the diagnosis and care of children with these disorders. Diagnosis and management can be complex, and the program is supported by a state of the art platelet biology laboratory. The team includes Dr Mitchell, nurse practitioner Preethi Fernandez, social worker Bitalina Arroyo, and Hematology Laboratory Director Dr Morayma Reyes-Gil.
